Murray Grant
Bio
Murray Grant is a Canadian Contemporary Instrumental/New Age artist. His self-produced albums, House Of Mirrors, 3000 Days, and the brand new release, first… listen, are collections of his own instrumental compositions that combine acoustic ethnic instruments from around the world with contemporary Western instruments.
Previously, Grant played drums and wrote music for all original bands in Vancouver. He also composed corporate video soundtracks before deciding to release his own CD. Grant and co-producer Andrew Duncan assembled a cast of local musicians, and recorded House Of Mirrors at Duncan’s studio. The album received positive reviews and radio play across Canada, as well as into the United States and Europe. The CD was licensed to Compton’s MW for release in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, and was accepted into various music libraries in Canada and the U.S.
“Throughout [House Of Mirrors], Grant has hit upon a world fusion mixture that really works. None of the exotic instruments are trivialized or taken for granted, and the pieces are balanced between memorable melodies and intriguing unfolding of rhythm patterns. You'll discover new layers with each listening." - Carol Wright, All Music Guide USA
3000 Days, Grant’s second release, featured many of the same local instrumentalists who appeared on House Of Mirrors, along with new additions of shakuhachi, sitar, tablas and Indian style vocals. Grant recorded the musicians and mixing the tracks at his home studio. More positive reviews and radio play followed and the album was nominated for Outstanding Instrumental Album at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and for Best New Age Album and Best New Age Track for Maybe at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
“Wow! Murray's second album, 3000 Days is incredible. I am an eclectic so when something comes along like Murray's music that's unique, intriguing, very well composed and beautiful I am captivated and will listen to this CD over and over. I definitely recommend this album to everyone. It's outstanding!” - Jon Nipp, Spirit Within Music, Lubbock, Texas
The recording of first… listen was complicated by the COVID pandemic. After tracking all the drum and percussion parts at his home studio, Grant completed the project hiring musicians from Canada, Singapore, the Netherlands, Poland, and New York. All tracks were mixed in Grant’s home studio with the mentorship of Dom Morley.
[first... listen] is one of the most prime examples of exemplary contemporary instrumental work that I have had the pleasure to listen to in years, and as such, I see no reason why first... listen by Murray Grant shouldn’t charge up the charts at the very least and maybe even more could be on the horizon for this superb album. - Steve Sheppard - One World Music Radio
